“Give me that old time religion” are more than words to a song. They are the heart and soul of Christians who want to return to the simple way that Jesus and His apostles laid out in the early years of Christianity. When we speak of restoring New Testament Christianity or of returning back to the Bible, we honor God by paying attention to His word. Some think that too much water has passed under the bridge to return to those pristine waters. It is true that two thousand years of Christian history has brought many innovations, some good, some not so good, some right, some wrong, and some innocent, some deliberate. Yet there is a marvelous power in God’s word. If God could create the universe in six days, if He could part the Red Sea, if He could raise His Son from the dead, if He can forgive my sins and restore newness to my life, if He can do anything according to His will, then He also can restore His original church and add us to their number. “The Lord added to the church daily such |
